Cornerstone Christian Academy

Our Mission and Purpose

Cornerstone Christian Academy provides specialized academic programs and tutoring for students with diverse learning styles within a caring community built on Christian beliefs and values. The mission of our academy is to identify the needs, learning styles, and potential of students with learning differences and prepare them for success through our comprehensive and effective program.

Admissions

The following will serve as criteria (guidelines) used in considering a student for admission:

  • Students must have cognitive abilities in the average or above average range as indicated in a current psycho-educational evaluation or a statement by a qualified examiner indicating that the overall scores are not representative of the student’s true potential due to attentional or language processing difficulties.
  • There must be underachievement in one or more academic areas such as reading, written language, math, or basic learning processes.
  • The discrepancy between the student’s potential and achievement/performance may not necessarily qualify the student for services according to public school standards, but must be interfering with academic performance.
  • The student must be able to appropriately function in small groups, maintaining positive interaction with peers and teacher. If there has been a history of aggressive behavior, the student must have demonstrated successful and appropriate behavior in their current school setting before being considered for admission.
  • The student has the ability to care for his/her personal needs throughout the school day without assistance.
  • The student’s learning difficulties are NOT primarily the result of emotional or behavioral problems, intellectual disabilities, or a physically handicapping condition.

Our students typically struggle with one or more of the following: ADHD (inattention and/or hyperactivity), executive functioning, processing, expressive/receptive language, reading comprehension and fluency, math, and/or other specific diagnoses that affect learning.

CCA’s goal is to teach, train, and prepare students through our educational program.  Our collective time, effort, and professional development are directed to those objectives—not to primarily managing behavior or assuming responsibility for motivating students unwilling to cooperate.
